Struggling to Stay Motivated? Here’s How to Get Back on Track

As women, life can be exhausting, especially when you’re juggling a demanding 9-5 job, pursuing further education, and caring for young children. I’ve always enjoyed going to the gym (I feel better, I drink more water, I’m happier and I sleep better) but recently, I’ve fallen into despair with it. The mundane routine of doing it 3 times a week while seeking to maintain balance with everything else in my life has slightly pushed me over.

It’s no surprise that maintaining motivation can become a challenge. In fact, a 2023 Deloitte survey revealed that nearly half of Gen Zs (46%) and four in ten millennials (39%) feel stressed or anxious at work all or most of the time, with stress levels even higher among women.

If you’re feeling unmotivated, exhausted, and struggling to keep everything together, know that you’re not alone. Many women are experiencing similar challenges, and it’s important to acknowledge and address these feelings.

Understanding the Struggle with Motivation

Lack of motivation often stems from being overwhelmed. The pressure to excel at work, manage household responsibilities, and maintain a perfect lifestyle can lead to burnout. This constant demand can make it difficult to find the energy and drive to stay motivated.

Strategies to Reignite Your Motivation

1. Set Micro-Goals
Break down your larger objectives into smaller, manageable tasks. Achieving these micro-goals can provide a sense of accomplishment and keep you moving forward.

2. Build Systems and Processes
Create routines and systems that support your goals. Automating small tasks can free up mental space and make it easier to stay disciplined.

3. Practice Self-Compassion
Understand that not every day will be highly productive. Allow yourself grace during challenging times and recognize that it’s okay to have off days.

4. Be Mindful of Your Consumption
Pay attention to what you consume—be it food, information, or social media. Choose inputs that nourish your body and mind, and avoid those that drain your energy.

5. Seek Accountability
Share your goals with a trusted friend or mentor who can help keep you accountable. Regular check-ins can provide motivation and support.

Remember, you have the power to create the life you desire. Sometimes, it’s about doing less of what’s not serving you and more of what aligns with your values and aspirations.
